STEEL SHOT INFORMATION

STEEL CARTRIDGES

Cartridges will be available at the ground from Angus Cameron, Douglas Henderson or John MacKenzie. It should be noted that they are from personal stock and will therefore be available in small numbers for visitors, beginners and other shooters who don't have shotgun certificates. Regular steel shooters and local members should buy direct from suppliers such as R.MacLeod & Son (Tain), Trap & Field Supplies (Lhanbryde) or other stockist.

The main cartridges used at the ground are:-

Clever Steel (7) - £4 per box

Diana Steel (7) - £3 per box

Others available from stockists are Express, Hull, Gamebore

NEW STEEL SHOT SIZE RULES

The message below has now been superceeded and a ruling has been decided:-

1.79 The International Clay Target Shooting Council has agreed that where steel shot is being used

that there shall be a maximum shot size of 4 (as against lead shot size 6) where used at a Registered

or Home International event.

NO STEEL SHOT SIZE RULES

In the absence of any shot size rules for steel at this time, there is an opportunity to try several sizes without incurring any penalty. Generally those shooters with experience in these maters suggest using a steel shot that is two sizes bigger than the equivalent lead shot. For example if you generally use a lead size eight try a steel size six.

The club is now, by law, required to use steel shot as the shot falls over wetlands. This means all practices and competitions will be alternative shot only and anybody found using lead shot will be stopped shooting, warned and disqualified from competition.

During 100 target registered or selection competitions only, R.MacLeod & Sons (Tain) have kindly sponsored a box of 250 steel cartridges for each shoot. They will be given to whoever wins a shoot-off from all the people who shoot a 25/75 on that day.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALTHOUGH IT IS MANDATORY TO WEAR SAFETY GLASSES FOR ALL SCTA COMPETITIONS, IT WILL NOW BE CLUB POLICY THAT ALL SHOOTS INCLUDING PRACTICES WILL REQUIRE BOTH EAR AND EYE PROTECTION, BY COMPETITORS, REFEREES AND SPECTATORS BEYOND THE MARKED FENCE LINE OF THE SHOOTING GROUND.

The results are shown alongside the questions and the various options for answers. There are also two main columns of results, the first which shows the results from the full 90 questionnaires that were returned and the second which is from shooters (36) who have used steel shot more than twice at Deephaven. The sub columns are numbered 1-5 and relate to the options from left to right. The percentages for each option are shown under the relevant option number.
